Scholarship SOCLIFE
SOCLIFE is an interdisciplinary graduate program at the University of Cologne offers other things, a structured doctoral studies at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences. It is as a renowned group promoted education of the German Research Foundation. SOCLIFE focuses on quantitative comparisons between countries in social and economic sciences. As social policy, business, civil society or the country's history - - to keep its research is characterized by the simultaneous analysis of the influence of individual factors and country-level factors or behaviors.
Advantages of a award SOCLIFE
The graduate program SOCLIFE regularly offers scholarships for prospective PhD students in economics and social sciences. Selected students will be funded by a grant of € 1.103 per month for 3 years and travel grants for attending conferences, summer schools, etc. During their stay fully equipped in SOCLIFE, graduate students working in an office, have access to all institutions of the University of Cologne Their knowledge of the curriculum SOCLIFE (all courses are offered in English) and get a mentoring program intern the next funding period begins in October 2011, when eight SOCLIFE scholarships. Requirements for a SOCLIFE scholarship
SOCLIFE is looking for talented and ambitious team players who have a Master’s degree (or a national equivalent, e.g. University Diploma, German Magister, Swiss Linzenziat) in the field of sociology, political science, social policy, economics, social and economic psychology and/or statistics.
Applicants should have a good proficiency in English, statistics and multivariate data analysis and a research interest, which is in line with the research promoted at SOCLIFE. After successful completion of the program, students will receive a German Doctoral Degree (Dr. rer. pol.).
SOCLIFE scholars will be working in a collaborative group. They are supposed to finish the PhD thesis within three years, to take courses specified by SOCLIFE, to use the opportunity of presenting scientific output at conferences and to publish scientific output within the 3 years of funding. For the sake of group cohesion, SOCLIFE expects its scholars to live in or nearby Cologne.

1. Acceptance of applications: March 01, 2011 until May 06, 2011
2. Deadline for applications: May 06, 2011 (date of receipt)
3. Interviews with selected applicants: June 2011
4. Information on acceptance or refusal: Mid of July 2011 at the latest
5. Start of courses: October 2011
Selection process for a SOCLIFE scholarship
Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic credentials and a research proposal, which has to be in line with the research focus of SOCLIFE. Therefore, we advise the prospective applicants to familiarize themselves with the SOCLIFE research program and its areas of research.
