SOCLIFE is an interdisciplinary graduate program at the University of Cologne offers other things, a structured doctoral studies at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences. It is as a renowned group promoted education of the German Research Foundation. SOCLIFE focuses on quantitative comparisons between countries in social and economic sciences. As social policy, business, civil society or the country's history - - to keep its research is characterized by the simultaneous analysis of the influence of individual factors and country-level factors or behaviors.

The graduate program SOCLIFE regularly offers scholarships for prospective PhD students in economics and social sciences. Selected students will be funded by a grant of € 1.103 per month for 3 years and travel grants for attending conferences, summer schools, etc. During their stay fully equipped in SOCLIFE, graduate students working in an office, have access to all institutions of the University of Cologne Their knowledge of the curriculum SOCLIFE (all courses are offered in English) and get a mentoring program intern the next funding period begins in October 2011, when eight SOCLIFE scholarships. Requirements for a SOCLIFE scholarship
SOCLIFE is looking for talented and ambitious team players who have a Master’s degree (or a national equivalent, e.g. University Diploma, German Magister, Swiss Linzenziat) in the field of sociology, political science, social policy, economics, social and economic psychology and/or statistics.

Applicants should have a good proficiency in English, statistics and multivariate data analysis and a research interest, which is in line with the research promoted at SOCLIFE. After successful completion of the program, students will receive a German Doctoral Degree (Dr. rer. pol.).

SOCLIFE scholars will be working in a collaborative group. They are supposed to finish the PhD thesis within three years, to take courses specified by SOCLIFE, to use the opportunity of presenting scientific output at conferences and to publish scientific output within the 3 years of funding. For the sake of group cohesion, SOCLIFE expects its scholars to live in or nearby Cologne.

1. Acceptance of applications: March 01, 2011 until May 06, 2011
2. Deadline for applications: May 06, 2011 (date of receipt)
3. Interviews with selected applicants: June 2011
4. Information on acceptance or refusal: Mid of July 2011 at the latest
5. Start of courses: October 2011

Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic credentials and a research proposal, which has to be in line with the research focus of SOCLIFE. Scholarship Description:University of Exeter undergraduate alumni wishing to study for a Masters degree within the College of Humanities can benefit from a £1,000 scholarship towards tuition fees. In order to be eligible for the award, in addition to any other programme entry requirements, you must obtain a minimum of 2.1 undergraduate degree.The award is open to anyone who completed their undergraduate degree at the University of Exeter, regardless of department, in the last 4 years, or is due to complete their degree this academic year.

There is no separate application process for this award, but we do encourage you to apply by 31 August as there may be some delay in processing awards for students who accept their place after this date. Please note you cannot hold two scholarships concurrently, so if you are in receipt of another scholarship when you register on the programme, you will not receive this award.

Research Positions Scholarship Contests in National Metallurgical Laboratory, India

Walk-in-interview will be held at National Metallurgical Laboratory, Burmamines, Jamshedpur to derive a panel for engagement as Project Assistant/Project Associate at different levels depending on the future requirements of different projects and selection to 06 positions of “JRF-GATE”. In addition, contingency grant of Rs. 20,000/- per annum is also admissible. On completion of 2 years as JRF-GATE, the fellowship may be upgraded to SRF-GATE with a stipend of Rs. 18,000/-p.m. on the basis of assessment as per CSIR rules. In exceptional cases, where the Fellow has completed M Tech within one year of joining as JRF-GATE, the Fellowship can also be upgraded to SRF-GATE on the basis of assessment as per rules.1. For JRF-GATE :- The Selected candidates will have to pursue Ph.D by either taking direct admission to Ph.D programme of any University/NIT/IIT etc. or may pursue M.Tech as a part of the Ph.D programme. Those who are starting the thesis semester of M.E./M.Tech and having valid GATE score and desirous of pursuing Ph.D are also eligible for the fellowship.
2. For Project Assistant/ Project Associate:- Tenure of appointment under one project or under more projects will be co-terminus with the tenure of the respective project or maximum upto 5 years which ever is less. All the above positions are purely temporary and on contract basis. It would therefore, not confer any right/claim, implicit or explicit, for consideration/absorption against any NML/CSIR post. The Government strives to have a workforce which reflects gender balance and women candidates are encouraged to apply. Hindi may be used as a medium of conversation during the interview. Interested and eligible candidates, who are Indian national, should attend the interview on 24-03-2011 and onwards at National Metallurgical Laboratory, Burmamines, Jamshedpur. In order to attend the interview, the candidates must apply by filling up their applications ON LINE up to 18.00 hrs of 22-03-2011 after which the system will not accept any application. 2011 PhD Positions Scholarship Contests in Arctic Geophysics at University Centre in Svalbard, Norway

Scholarship Description:The Department of Arctic Geophysics of the UniversityCentre in Svalbard havevacanciesfor two PhD position forfour years each within the Space Physics group focusing on optics of airglow and aurora, respectively. UNIS provides education and carries out scientific research based in Svalbard within the high Arctic, and benefits greatlyfrom this geographical location. Approximately half of the staff and students are from abroad,
and all teaching isin English. UNIS is located in a new building in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, withvery good
access to modern laboratories and equipment. UNIS is a state owned.

Qualifications :The successful candidatesmust have a Master degree in Physics or equivalent in a field related to the above described projects. Due to logistics, the candidates need to have driver licenses.Admission to the doctoral programme at one of the Norwegian mainland universitiesis a condition of employment in the position as PhD student. The final plan for researcher education shall be approved and a contract signed with the mainland university at the latest six months after commencement. The applications will be prepared by the candidates and the supervisors. Employment Conditions for Ph.D positions :The employment contracts are of 4 years and include mandatory duties of 25% each. The successful candidatesmust live in Longyearbyen. They are expected to contribute actively to ongoing scientific activities in the department. It is also expected that the Ph.D. students take an active part in the advancement of their field of research, and they must also be willing to contribute to the development of UNIS in a more general sense.

All salaries are set in accordance with the Norwegian government’s University salary scale. Ph.D students starts at salary step 48, which currently is a gross salary of NOK 383 900.As a resident in Svalbard an annual allowance of NOK 26 400.(Svalbardtillegg) will be added to the salary. A Social Security contribution of 2 per cent, to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, will be deducted from the salary. Income tax on Svalbard is 8 per cent, plus 7.8 per cent toward National Insurance coverage. Selection and appointment :An expert Committee appointed by the Managing director of UNIS, will evaluate the qualifications of the applicants. The Committee will review the applications in detail, and is the basis for interviews. The final appointment will be made by the Appointment Committee.
